Update on Cole...

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are all doing well!  I am sorry to say that I don't have any pictures to upload this week, but thought I'd give you all an update on our newest family member!  We had quite a busy weekend and luckily Connor was staying at his Papaw and Memaw's house and avoided getting lost in the confusion of it all!  I had some pretty strong and continuous contractions on Friday night, 8/26, and finally ended up going into the hospital at 10:30 PM, after a call to the doctor.  It turned out that I was contracting every two minutes and had cervical changes.  I was dilated to 2 cm and 30% effaced.  They finally stopped the preterm contractions with a shot of Terbutaline (NOT fun) and we were discharged at 3 AM.  The next day I had contractions all day and the doctor on call called me in a prescription for Procardia around 5:00 PM.  I took the first dose around 5:30 and at 7:00 called her because I'd had 8 contractions in an hour (not supposed to have more than 4, at most).  She told me to take another pill and after taking that at 8:30, I had 9 contractions the next hour and called her around 10 PM.  She told me to come in and although I was super bummed, she said that if there were no further cervical changes, she would allow me to stay home from now on unless the contractions got more intense or my water broke.  So I went to the hospital and only had to stay for about an hour and a half because they determined I was still 2 cm and 30% effaced.  They let me leave with the medication and orders to stay on bed rest for the next week.

I saw my doctor this morning for a 9:30 sonogram and got some great news.  Turns out that the Gestational Diabetes diet that I am on is really working now!  I have only gained 1 lb in 3 weeks and Cole is only measuring in the 85th% now instead of "over 100% and off the charts, as he was the last sonogram!  They estimated his weight to be at 7 lbs now and my amniotic fluid is only measuring at 17.9 cm instead of 21 cm (when it should be more like 13 cm).  So good news all around!  Cole, of course, could not be bothered by the sonogram since he was literally bee-bopping ALL NIGHT last night, and obviously exhausted today because he slept through the whole thing :)  Dr. Samuel checked me and I'm still at 2 cm dilated, but am now at 50% effaced. He said that their big concern with the preterm labor contractions is that they will aggravate my previous c section scar on my uterus and I'm at an increased risk of rupture.  He said that if labor began on it's own, they would NOT try to stop it since I have reached 36 weeks, as of today.  He said that Cole would be fine and he was not worried about his lungs any longer.  He said that he does not expect that I will make it to my scheduled c section date of 9/20, but that we can hope!

Have a great week and stay tuned!
